Changing Assumptions

January 28th, 2010 · No Comments

When we first build our , we need to make many [tag-dir]assumptions. As part of our project plan, we need to document what these assumptions are. We also need to acknowledge the reality that many of those assumptions may not prove out as the project unfolds.

Planning is a dynamic process. The idea is for us to draw line in the sand and frame out an approach. We are doing so without full knowledge. We need to recognize how well formed and how sound our plan really is. It maybe our best effort at the time but it also maybe highly subject to change.

In dealing with change, we need to recognize the potential repeatedly of potential change and the potential impact of the change. These borders on risk analysis, we need to put the pieces on place to monitor that potential change whether it is to devise ways to become well informed all along the way to receive certain critical information or know some critical people that can provide us with those insights along the way. Upfront in the planning stages, we can determine this key pivotal touch points and put in our plan away to monitor them.

We need to be always aware of our presumptions, document them and recognize the impact that they have on our projects and various solution sets. We need to set up appropriate time intervals to review this and have planned ways of constantly monitoring the soundness and evolution of these assumptions.
