Globality for Project Managers and Program Managers

October 15th, 2008 · No Comments

is a term that indicates in part that "Globalization" has come to an end. This is a distinction between globality and globalization. It affects so many of the things we do in a Project Management work. Let’s look at the distinction and some of the key areas that are affected.

globality versus gloabalization

Globality is distinct from globalization in the following way period. Globalization describes what has happened when primarily western companies have expanded the reach from the countries of origin to other countries and localities across the globe.

Globality refers to next phase of internationalization. Globality in a sense refers to the merging situation of competing with Everyone on Everything Everywhere career. These are considered to be three E’s of globality.

So how does globality come into play in Project Management? Actually I believe it comes into play heavily in strategic planning. This means where it has very strong influence on Project Portfolio Management. In addition programs being proactively strategic in nature are very influenced by the affect of globality. Projects, being information oriented, are affected in ways that influence the tactics in actual delivery of the Projects.
Just for starters let’s take a quick look at many of the factors that globality brings to the table and actually turns upside down. Here is a list for deeper exploration via:

  1. Labor
  2. New markets
  3. Research and Development
  4. Customer Service
  5. Support
  6. Paradigms for thinking
  7. Location
  8. Transportation
  9. Language
  10. Communications

As you can see there are many many different factors of which I have listed a few that can be considered in this age which some have turned as the age of Globality. In managing our Projects and Programs we need to keep this 3 E’s in mind.
