In-Person Project Meetings: Why We Want It Up Close and Personal

November 26th, 2007 · No Comments

In-person meetings are one of the oldest means used by different sectors of society in order for at least two individuals to meet, present their respective cases and reach an agreement or a compromise.  It is widely used in many formal settings as well as informal ones.  In fact, it is not uncommon to find organized in campuses, clubs, offices, and even in playgrounds, gyms and factory floors.

Uses of in-person meetings

In-person meetings are a means with which a group of people can communicate directly in order to discuss an issue on a person-to-person basis.  This allows for a direct interaction between and among participants. are also very useful in circumstances where actual physical presence of a person or an object is required, such as during interviews, presentations and demonstrations.  Unlike other forms of meetings, such as those conducted through phone and video conferencing or online, in-person meetings are much more… well, personalized.

In-person meetings are an important tool for many groups.  It is by far the most popular and widely-used ways for people to communicate.  It has a variety of uses – for interviews, assessments, recruitments, instruction and discussions for lectures, brainstorming, project management, research and studies.

Using in-person meetingsAlthough technologies exist that can effectively do away with in-person meetings, they continue to be practiced around the world.  This is because in-person meetings are not only a means for direct socialization but also because they provide a more dynamic means to interact.  No other methods of putting a group of individuals together can offer what in-person meetings can: a way to sit down, feel one another’s physical presence and the opportunity to read each other’s gestures and look each other in the eye.
