What do you do when hopelessness seems on the horizon? What do you do when it appears you have tried everything and nothing is working? What do you do when it appears that you are at the end of the road?

These are the questions that sooner or later come into the mind of any leader and for project managers. This can sometimes happen several times on one project. Some problems simply or difficult to solve and the solving of those problems may very well hold the entire success or the success of the entire project ion balance. What can we as leaders do?

Our job as leaders is to come up with options. That does not mean we alone develop all of the options. We need to call upon any and all of our stakeholders especially including team members to tap in every resource that we have. The important thing is that we recognize that it is us who must drive the effort to producing these options so that we can maintain hope that is solution will be found.

People have great faith in those who are able to frame the problem. Therefore, if we can simply frame or explain in clear and simple terms what the problem is, that can be a great step to a producing further options. Stakeholders will respect our clarity on what the problem is and will be most inclines to help us develop those options. It is then our job to take those options and work them into well defined solutions and take the next step toward implementation on the best course of action.
