I’ll be off to submit my project report to the Big Boss by 4pm, and so I’ll chill off for a while writing this post, as I expect our meeting to extend to a couple of hours, given how much Big Boss loooves to talk about [tag]management and leadership[/tag] among his supervisors.
I can easily predict his speech outline: how [tag]winning projects[/tag] depend on competent management, and how leadership is shaped by example, his lecture complete with vignettes and jokes at proper intervals. While I fully appreciate the guy’s intentions, two hours of pep talk is just too much for me. Besides, I’d like to think I’m quite equipped in that department: I just happen to learn all about [tag]project management and leadership[/tag] –- and life, actually –- at the foot of the master, Don Vito Corleone.
The Don knows what he wants and how to get it. A master of project management (Note: let’s expound on the kind of ‘projects’ he has some other time, alright?) and an icon of leadership, he is ruthless, but not fearless (he’s Catholic, after all). He has focus — constant and loyal, yet never stubborn (a fatal flaw among many leaders). He knows when to be flexible, and how, with dignity. He knows that a leader can never be an individual: he’s the head of the pack. That’s why he shares his [tag]wisdom[/tag], his home, his wealth with his men (and women). But he has secrets, too. So I’ll stop here, lest I spill mine. Â
