Proposal Writing Procrastination Strategy No. 3: Scout Some Free Project Management and Leadership Training Online

August 25th, 2007 · No Comments

A project is only as good as its management, so while writing my proposal for this big event, I thought, I might as well strengthen my [tag]leadership skills[/tag] by searching for some free leadership training online. OK –- that may be slightly far-out, but not exactly futile: At least it may enrich my technical vocabulary enough to make the proposal more impressive.

Five seconds on Blackle (that’s the new energy-saving search engine, powered by GoogleSearch and identifiable by its black screen, which supposedly uses less energy :)), and I’m off my target project, and have wandered off to other [tag]project management blogs[/tag] and some other fascinating sites. One can get easily lost online: from the “project management and leadership training” search words I typed in, I came across this interesting men’s lifestyle online magazine, which led me to an editor’s blog, which linked to a graphic artists’ portal, which featured a profile and website of a radical female artist from Japan. Whew! Not bad at all. I gained new insights (From “Sex myths debunked” from the men’s online magazine, to shoplifting as performance art and act of dissent from the Japanese artist), and traveled half the world in 45 minutes.

I did all these, still, without writing a single word for my proposal.

While there are lots of free project management and leadership training online that can empower me, it is unwise to search for them while I’m supposed to be writing my proposal and get it done. Although I tell myself aloud that I’m doing it FOR ME, in reality, what I’m doing is a classic example of [tag]procrastination[/tag].
