Thinking Your Way Through Tough Challenges - Not!

September 25th, 2008 · No Comments

When , many of us find ourselves trying to "think our way through it".  While thinking generally is a good thing, strangely enough, this approach often results in repetitive thoughts and mental dead ends.  What is often missing is action and results, but we may not realize it.

Research has shown that conscious processing is far less powerful than the non-conscious mind.  We only need to think of athletics as an example, where the athlete "burns" certain habits, movements, and attitudes into the subconscious, and otherwise just "plays the game" when in competition

leadership and subconscious mind

One of the byproducts of our unconscious "computer" is intuition, a power within us that allows the contents of our subconscious to rise to the surface when needed.  It is almost like a top-notch search engine, bringing us just what we need in a focused at, at the moment we need it.  Our subconscious, like that of an athlete, is a truth-teller when it comes to the quality of our choices.

So, by no means should we stop thinking and using our minds!  But we need to be aware of the self-talk and internal conversations that might be getting in the way of decision making and leadership.

It therefore can be good to shut down the brain chatter about whatever may be troubling us. In doing so, we make room for our subconscious to go to work, and our “intuition” to weigh in.  We are far more likely to find a sound solution, rather than compound the problem, when we leverage the personal assets of subconsious and intuition when faced with a tough challenge.
